These are the sites I go to for assets during game jams and prototyping. Links break and licenses change, so make sure to double check before every jam.

Each site is tagged with what it has, and with what its license generally means. Always read the license on the asset itself before you ship.

CC0
Public domain. Use it however you want, no credit needed.
No credit needed
Free to use without attribution, under the site's own license, which has a few restrictions.
Attribution
Free, but you have to credit the author.
Varies
Every asset has its own license. Check each one.
Paid
Some or all of the assets cost money.
MIT
Open-source code. Use it in anything, as long as you keep the license notice with the code.
  • ambientCG Textures HDRIs 3D

    PBR materials, HDRIs, and models.

    CC0
  • CC0 Textures Textures

A big library of PBR textures.

    CC0
  • CraftPix 2D 3D

Some are free, others are paid. A lot of their packs are on itch.io as well.

    No credit needed Paid
  • Dafont Fonts

A huge collection of free fonts, but a lot of them are for personal use only. Tick the "100% Free" filter in the search options to hide those. Fonts usually have their own licenses, most often the SIL Open Font License, which lets you use and ship them in a game. You just can't sell the font itself.

  • FontSpace Fonts

Another big font library with a mix of licenses. Make sure you tick the "commercial use" button, and it's good to go.

    Varies
  • Thousands of game icons under CC BY 3.0. Credit the artist of each icon you use.

    Attribution
  • Maaack's template with a main menu, options menus, credits, and a scene loader, so you don't have to build them during a jam. It's also on the Godot Asset Library. Play around with it before the jam starts.

    MIT
  • itch.io 2D 3D Audio

Sprites, tilesets, sound, music, and more, from independent artists. A lot of the bigger asset sites sell their packs here too.

    Varies Paid
  • Rigged 3D characters and a big library of animations from Adobe. It's free with an Adobe account, and you can upload your own model to have it rigged automatically. You can use them in a game, but you can't redistribute the raw files.

    No credit needed
  • OpenGameArt 2D 3D Audio Textures

Assets are under CC0, CC-BY, CC-BY-SA, GPL, and others, but the advanced search lets you filter by license, so you can stick to CC0 if you want to.

    Varies
  • Pexels Photos

Photos and video. Useful for photo textures.

    No credit needed
  • Pixabay Photos 2D Audio

Photos, illustrations, vectors, sound effects, and music. You just can't resell the assets on their own.

    No credit needed
  • Poly Haven Textures HDRIs 3D

    HDRIs, textures, and models.

    CC0
  • Low-poly 3D models in consistent styles: characters, environments, sci-fi, fantasy, and more. Everything is free.

    CC0
  • Big low-poly 3D packs with a recognizable style. Almost all of it is paid, but they show up in Humble Bundles and sales a lot. Check the license if you're on a team, because it's licensed per seat.

    Paid
  • Downloads are limited, and the licensing is a bit confusing. The free license needs attribution and has limits on products you sell, so read it carefully before putting something in a paid game. Pro removes the attribution requirement.
